Update -- Austin police have identified the victim as 27-year-old Joseph Hamilton Carroll.

His death marks the 40th traffic fatality of the year.

Earlier -- Police are looking for the driver involved in a deadly hit-and-run collision in East Austin.

Officials with the Austin Police Department said a red Mazda ran the red light at North Pleasant Valley Road and Cesar Chavez Boulevard in East Austin and struck a pickup. The passenger in the pickup was thrown from the truck and killed.

According to police, witnesses saw the driver and occupants of the Mazda flee from the scene on foot.
