One of Austin's most famous personalities may be gone but the memory and spirit of Albert Leslie Cochran lives on.
Leslie, the homeless Austin icon, died in March after an extended illness. Friends and supporters threw the first ever Leslie Fest Sunday. It’s a party they hope will soon become an annual tradition.
Organizers say the party is not just about celebrating the man whose name became synonymous with Austin weirdness.
"The story of Leslie is the story of Austin really taking care of Leslie and supporting him and celebrating him. There are not a lot of towns that would do that, so that's what we're here to celebrate," Mike Wilson said.
Funds raised at Leslie Fest will benefit Hospice Austin.
