Coal train derails north of Temple
Crews are cleaning up after a train derailment in Bell County.
The Department of Public Safety says 43 cars of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train derailed just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday along F.M. 1237 near Pendleton.
While clouds that looked like smoke could be seen for miles, there was no fire. The cars were carrying coal, and the derailment sent coal dust into the area.
DPS officials said there were no injuries, no hazardous materials spilled, and no roads are being blocked.
The derailment is, however, expected to cause delays for other trains for several days as BNSF clears the tracks.
The train is 126 cars long.
