A 95-year-old woman is dead and four people are injured in an early morning house fire Tuesday in East Austin.
Emergency crews arrived to the residence on Chico Street, where they reported thick flames and thick smoke coming from the house.
Fire crews say their efforts were focused on rescue attempts, and the fire spread to a second structure.
While people inside the second home were able to get out safely, upon second search of the home, crews found the elderly woman's body.
"Working on the outside of the structure makes it kind of hazardous. We're not able to see what we're walking into so, that makes it a little more difficult and knowing we do have people inside, and concentrating all our efforts on the rescues," Lt. Jim Baker said.
Four other occupants were injured and transferred to area hospitals. One firefighter was treated for minor injuries.
Officials say the fire was accidental and electrical in nature.
