The Austin Police Department is asking for the public's help to find out what happened to 42-year-old Alejandro Hernandez.

Officers found him shot to death and slumped over inside his truck early Monday morning while responding to a welfare check in the neighborhood near Highway 183 and Lamar.

APD has ruled the shooting a murder, the 16th this year in Austin, but still aren't sure exactly what happened in this case.

"At this time the motive is unclear to us. But we're hoping someone in the public can come forward and assist us with this investigation," Sgt. Scott Ehlert said.

Police are asking for anyone who may have information on this case to call the homicide tip line at 512-477-35-88
