Police are looking for the man they believe shot 19-year-old Ashley Perez to death early Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to a shooting in the 3600 block of Govalle Avenue around 1:30 a.m. There they found Perez with multiple gunshot wounds. She died later that morning at a hospital.

Witnesses say 24-year-old Javier Richard Rodriguez shot Perez in front of his home during an argument about money.

Onlookers say Rodriguez ran away afterwards. He is charged with felon in possession of firearm, but murder charges may come later.

"Witnesses are describing that both subjects were in possession of a firearm and we feel that we've gathered the facts and circumstances and we've decided that it would be best to present it to a grand jury and allow them to make that decision," Sgt. Scott Ehlert said.

Police were able to recover the victim's gun after a friend admitted to hiding the weapon before officers came.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.
