Some of Austin’s finest mobile eateries were in the spotlight Saturday.

A handful of local trucks competed n the Taste of Texas Food Truck Challenge at the South First Food Court, kicking off Restaurant Round-Up week.

From July 23 through 29, diners are encouraged to eat at restaurants that serve locally produced food and beverages.

A portion of proceeds will go to benefit area food banks.

"This is one way that we get a little bit of recognition,” organizer R.J. Oliver said. “And because we do tend to specialize in using a lot of very local products, it's right up the alley of what the Texas Department of Agriculture is trying to promote."

Blue Dog Pizza, Lard Have Mercy, Nettie's Place, Bananarchy and Buffalo Bob’s Chalupa Wagon handed out free samples of dishes containing Texas ingredients.

Nettie's Place won the celebrity judge off with their “Texas Gumbo Ya-Ya.”
