Friends and family of a Texan killed in the Colorado Theater shootings gathered in San Antonio to remember her life, Saturday.

Jessica Ghawi, 24, and 11 others were killed last Friday, when a gunman opened fire in an Aurora theater, during the opening day of the new Batman movie.

Ghawi aspired to be a sports broadcaster and went by the name Jessica Redfield on the air. Her family has created the Jessica Redfield Sports Journalist Scholorship Fund in her honor to help others with similar goals.

During Saturday’s funeral service, Ghawi’s brother spoke about both the shooter and the unpredictability of life.

"If this coward could have done this with this much hate, imagine what we could do with this much love,” Jordan Ghawi said. “The other thing is, if you're putting your dreams on hold, you stop that right now. You chase those dreams. You don't know how long you have.”

According to her blog, Ghawi narrowly avoided another mass shooting in a Toronto mall just a month earlier.
