Woman dies from 36-year-old injuries, death ruled homicide
A 36-year-old woman died in May as a result of injuries sustained as an infant. Her death has been ruled a homicide and police say her now-deceased grandmother is their suspect.

According to police, Linda Gatica was taken to an area hospital by her grandmother, Martha Gatica, in 1976 with head injuries. When released, Gatica was placed in foster care after Child Protective Services deemed the injuries suspicious.

After investigating her death, homicide detectives determined the injuries she sustained as an infant were directly responsible for her death in May.

The case has been “cleared” by police due to the death of the suspect, Martha Gatica.
