Officials say an 18-month-old was walking and entered traffic near the Bernie Beck Gate at Fort Hood Saturday when a pickup truck struck him. The child was transported to Darnall Medical Center where he later died.

"On behalf of our Fort Hood family, I offer my sincere condolences to the family who lost their child in this tragic incident,"Col. Matthew Elledge, Fort Hood's Garrison commander said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with this family in their time of sorrow."

The incident remains under investigation.
