Officials with the City of Bastrop are warning utility customers about unknown individuals calling and congratulating customers for paying their bill on time.

Callers say the customer is being rewarded with $2,500 cash and a new television. They go on to say residents only have to pay $160 for installation of the new television.

City officials say they’re not running any type of promotions and warn if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
