Austin's Jewish and Hindu communities join forces.

The Jewish and Hindu communities of Austin want to make sure homeless kids have the tools they need this school year. They held a school supply drive at the Dell Jewish Community Center Sunday.

Volunteers assembled kits of donated school supplies which will be distributed to homeless children in Manor later this week.

Organizers say they welcomed the opportunity for the groups to work together.

"We solicited for the volunteers and you know we got quite a few as you see here. I thought this was kind of fun, two communities working together," Hindu Charities for America Founder Harish Kotecha said.

The groups planned to assemble about 600 kits.
