Council OKs new helicopter for APD
The Austin Police Department will be welcoming a new helicopter to its fleet soon.

APD asked the city council for the $3.7 million Eurocopter back in June. Chief Aft Acevedo says it will be a much needed extra eye in the sky for Austin’s safety.

The city council approved the new helicopter during their meeting Thursday.

The new chopper will be the third for the department. They currently use a 2001 model and a 43-year-old military helicopter.

Police officials say the new chopper should be in use by next spring.
