An important thing to check up on before your child heads back to school is their immunizations.
Dr. Al Gros, Chief Medical Officer for St. David’s South Medical Center, said up-to-date immunizations are required for students to enroll.
Schools can provisionally enroll students, but they must be caught up on their immunizations within thirty days.
"When you go back to school, you need to have current immunizations, so it's important, if you haven't already done so to make sure you've made an appointment with your pediatrician or your health clinic or provider to get the current immunizations that are required," Dr. Gross said.
State law does allow some exceptions to school immunizations. Parents can write a letter to the health department, explaining reasons of conscience or religious beliefs against immunization.
