Thousands of people took over the Congress Avenue Bridge last night in an effort to see more than 1,000,000 Mexican free-tailed bats.
At the annual Bat Fest celebration, of course the bats are the star of the show, but the event also draws large crowds because of other festivities, including more than 10 bands, lost of food, and arts and crafts vendors.
Visitors say they expect this kind of event in Austin.
"From the looks of it, looking around, I'd say they're definitely doing a good job of Keeping Austin Weird," Ethan Ramirez said.
In addition to live music, visitors also could enter a costume contest.
This was the eighth year for the free event.
