After five months of work, the Lockhart Municipal Airport is open and ready for growth.
Saturday marked the grand re-opening of the facility. The runway was resurfaced as part of a joint project with the city of Lockhart and TxDOT.
Airport managers say they're expecting an influx of air travelers for this fall's Formula 1 race.
"I see us being loaded up with aircraft that people want to fly in here to utilize our cheaper facilities and our ease to get in and out," Stanley Martin with Martin and Martin Aviation said.
Lockhart city leaders say the newly refurbished airport, the opening of State Highway 130 next month and the F1 race in November are major factors that are going to fuel growth in the city.
