Austin resident Troy Dumais stirs up plenty of attention around town, especially since he returned from the London Olympics with a medal.

"Everybody says, 'Congratulations,' comes up, wants to shake your hand,” he said. “It has been phenomenal."

Less than one month ago, the 32-year-old partnered with Kristian Ipsen to win bronze in the three-meter synchronized diving competition.

It was Dumais’ fourth trip to the Olympics, but his first trip to the medal stand.

"Finally getting up on the medal stand was a phenomenal feat. It's something that any athlete dreams about,” Dumais said. “It doesn't matter what color the medal is."

Dumais is one of just two American men to dive in four Olympic Games, and he's not ruling out a record fifth trip in 2016.

"My fire is still burning,” he said. “There's a lot of things I'd still like to accomplish, whether it's more medals or pushing myself to better myself on a daily basis, and I know I can still do that, and that's why I want to continue."

For now, the hometown hero says there aren’t any diving events on his schedule, and he's looking forward to some relaxation.

"This is the first time that I can honestly say I can take a step away, be Troy and enjoy a vacation," Dumais said.

It’s a well-deserved rest after finally accomplishing his dream of claiming an Olympic medal.
