A woman died Monday morning after she flipped her car in an abrupt lane change on Interstate 35 at Slaughter Lane.

Austin police said 43-year-old Sonia Garcia was driving south on I-35 about 11:00 a.m. when she exited for Slaughter Lane, then quickly steered back onto the highway, causing her 2002 Chevrolet Suburban to roll several times.

Garcia was thrown from the vehicle. She was taken to UMC Brackenridge Hospital where she died just before 2:00 p.m.

Garcia’s death is Austin’s 50th traffic fatality of the year. Last year at this time there were 36 traffic fatalities.
