Big time Lakeshore developments bring happy growth to area

Two separate residential construction projects are moving right along, this time on the south shore of Lady Bird Lake.
Each site is located between Riverside Drive and Pleasant Valley. One is a six-story, mixed-use development. Right down the street, a three-story, 300,000 square foot apartment complex should be complete by April of next year.
It’s good news for employees at the nearby Dairy Queen, who don’t mind the ruckus from construction outside. The restaurant has been at the same location since 1977.
"We are very fortunate that we own the land so that makes a huge difference when you're not leasing from somebody," Dairy Queen General Manager Jovito Leon said.
Parts of the old neighborhood are still coming down. On the western edge of Lakeshore Boulevard, story by story, retails, rentals and restaurants are moving in and moving up in a whirlwind of new development.
Even more growth is on the way. A Lakeshore developer told YNN a 20-acre plot of land is expected to generate between $250 and $300 million of economic activity.
Area resident Polo Brown says new residents will enjoy the convenience of the area.
"We have a Slick Willie's across the street, our liquor store across the street, our bus stops across the street, like everything is like walking distance. It couldn't get better," Brown said.
When complete, Lakeshore Phase One is expected to have 2,500 units.
