The landowner of The Brick Oven pizzeria, located at 12th and Red River Streets, has decided to build bigger. The restaurant has been at that location for about 30 years. Now, owners are trying to rezone the land and build a 20 to 40 story building on the property.

Austin Business Journal Editor Colin Pope said the area right around Brackenridge is “hot” right now with all the talk about the medical school being centered there.

The zoning case has the planning commission’s blessing and is slated to go before council Sept. 27. It’s not clear yet whether the property will be zoned residential, commercial, office or mixed-use.
