A human rights convention drew representatives from dozens of local organizations this weekend.

The event was organized by The Austin Immigrant Rights Coalition. One organizer said their main goal is to tackle vital social justice issues and to improve the quality of life for everyone.

Access to health care, affordable housing, immigrants' rights and education were just a few of the topics discussed.

"We believe there are systems causing these problems and we're here to develop a vision of human rights for systems that respect human rights and human dignity for all in this country," Esther Reyes with the Austin Immigrant Rights Coalition said.

Saturday’s human rights convention is tied to several others taking place across the state and nation.
