Service in Bastrop held to mark anniversary of historic fire

It's been almost one year since hundreds of families in Bastrop County watched their homes go up in flames during the Bastrop County Complex fire.
On Sunday, the community gathered for a special service to give thanks for how far they've come, and to remember all that was lost.
The crowd filled the Bastrop Arts Center for the service hosted by the Bastrop Ministerial Alliance. One Pastor spoke about the community’s resilience as they recover.
"It has come a long way through the leadership of our firefighters, through the leadership of our commissioners, city leaders, community leaders,” former Bastrop County Judge Ronnie McDonald said. “We still have a long way to go, and we're saying today that we are going to walk with those individuals who are trying to recover and also trying to move forward in their life."
This is one of many Labor Day events to acknowledge the anniversary of the fires.
On Monday, area fire stations will honor first responders. The Hyatt Lost Pines will host a fundraising dinner on Tuesday evening.
During the complex fire, two people died, more than 1,600 homes were destroyed and nearly 35,000 acres of land were scorched.
