City of Kyle moves forward with water plan

For most businesses, water is the life blood helping the flow of commerce.
In the rapidly growing city of Kyle, owners of the Texas Pie Company are pleased city leaders are working to keep the faucets running.
"Absolutely, we use it not only in our recipes for our customers, but we use it for cleaning and sanitizing," Spenser Schwarz with Texas Pie Company said. "I think that is great. That is one of the major jobs of the local government."
The City of Kyle brokered a deal with the Barton Springs-Edwards Aquifer Conservation District to allow additional pumping in non-drought conditions, up from the current 165 million gallons of water per year to 350 million gallons.
"Being able to provide good quality, reliable water is key to being able to grow responsibly and sustainably," City of Kyle Director of Community Development Jerry Hendrix said.
The extra 185 million gallons the town of 29,000 receive means no matter the growth, eateries like Texas Pie Company will always collect an adequate piece of the ‘water’ pie.
The deal has not been finalized due to an ongoing legal battle. The Save Our Springs Alliance wants stronger assurances the aquifer won't be tapped during drought.
Until the deal is finalized, residents still have plenty of water to meet their current needs.
