The City of San Marcos is preparing for a two-year downtown reconstruction project.

Officials will hold a ground breaking ceremony Thursday morning. Mayor Daniel Guerrero and the city council are kicking off the 10.2 million project.

The reconstruction will include Hutchison Street from the C.M. Allen Parkway to LBJ Drive, and LBJ Drive from Hopkins Street to University Drive.

Improvements include underground electric and telecommunications, street and sidewalk reconstruction and wastewater improvements.

Construction began on Aug. 31.
