Former President Bill Clinton isn’t known for giving short speeches, so it shouldn’t have come as a surprise when his endorsement of President Barack Obama went well over the night’s allotted time.

Clinton’s official role in taking the stage Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention was to formally nominate the President for re-election. In a nearly hour-long speech, he touted Obama’s policies as a better alternative to the solutions put forward at last week’s Republican convention in Tampa, on issues including healthcare, debt reduction and job creation.

“In Tampa the Republican argument against the President's re-election was actually pretty simple, pretty snappy. It went something like this: We left him a total mess, he hasn't cleaned it up fast enough, so fire him and put us back in," Clinton said.
