Austin Dog Alliance is growing to help more Central Texans.

The nonprofit recently purchased more than seven acres of land in Cedar Park to build a larger permanent home. The group runs several programs using therapy dogs to help children, including helping at-risk readers and children with Autism.

Organizers say they’ve outgrown their current leased location in Austin.

"Our current facility is at capacity. We can't add more kids. We can't add more classes. Yet there is demand and our classes are sold out each time, so this will really meet our needs and allow us to grow the programming," spokesperson Debi Krakar said.

The Austin Dog Alliance needs to raise more than $1.5 million to complete the new facility. Several engineering firms and construction companies are donating their time and services.

The nonprofit hopes to have a new home completed by spring 2013.
