Saturday was a big day for the Texas State Bobcats.

It was the first home for Texas State University-San Marcos first home game as a member of the Western Athletic Conference, and the first game in their newly renovated stadium.

Cole Heidel was one of the thousands of Texas State students who spent the day getting ready for one of the biggest games in Texas State football history.

"This is actually a lot better than last year, this is huge compared to last year’s," Heidel said.

Since last year the stadium has nearly doubled in size, making Saturday's crowd the largest ever to Texas State play in San Marcos.

"We feel like this is our introduction into the big leagues and we’re really excited to host Texas Tech," Bobcat fan Autumn Lapaglia said.

Tech fans were excited to be in San Marcos as well, but the pregame festivities were dominated by the Bobcats.

"It's been a little bit crazy everybody's been out trying to get people to come to this game, everybody's been trying to get to this game, people have been lining up for tickets," Heidel said.

A couple of early touchdowns by the Texas Tech Red Raiders took the wind out of the home crowd's sails, but Bobcat fans say Saturday's game was only the beginning.

"I'm excited about the rivalry between Texas Tech and Texas State. There is definitely a rivalry from now on," Heidel said.

The official attendance for yesterday's game was just more than 33,000, more than double the previous record.
