CAMPO is looking to complete a loop around Austin.

The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization discussed building a new major section of State Highway 45. They heard public input on the completion Monday night.

CAMPO is trying to find a way to close the western half of a loop around Austin which is expected to go from Round Rock almost to Buda.

Monday, the board threw out a traffic model for the potential area after a fatal flaw was found in the information used to create the model.

"As a community, so far we have been unable to get past the point that the road needs to be build in the first place. So, if we can get past that point we will move forward in great details about what that will look like, when and where," CAMPO Chairman Will Conley said.

Members from Save our Springs, the Austin Chamber of Commerce and neighbors of would-be highway were in attendance.

Some residents against the project, site concerns for the region's water.

The public hearing phase is expected to continue for a month. CAMPO plans to move forward with a vote on SH 45 project in October.
