On Luling's Main Street sits a museum that celebrates the discovery oil 90 years ago.
It’s a place where visitors can gain an appreciation of how much times have changed.
"It kind of gives you an idea of the rough and tumble time, how far our technology has come today and to just give you an overall feel of history," Museum Director Carol Voigt said.
The idea for the museum was born in the late 1980s as a way to attract more visitors to Luling.
"It took about three years, fundraising, getting together and they were able to get this building with a matching grant," Voigt said.
With a historic building in place, the community continued to work to ensure the museum became a reality.
"When you get a building it's completely empty and the Luling citizens and the surrounding area have been fabulous to donate everything,” Voigt said. “We don't have a purchasing budget so everything that you see in the museum has been donated."
That same community spirit is on display every September during the "Reflections Of Texas Art Show.”
"When you're an oil town it's kind of boom and bust up-and-down at different times," Voigt said.
