The family of a homeless man who was murdered last month near the Lady Bird Lake hike-and-bike trail in downtown Austin is asking for the public's help to find out what happened to him.
William Greer, 49.
Forty-nine-year-old William Roy Greer
was found dead in a sleeping bag with obvious trauma to his body.
Greer's family, including his daughter, father and sister, spoke to the media Thursday.
The Houston family says they had no idea Greer was in Austin, or that he had been living on the street. Greer's daughter Tangie Arrington says no matter the circumstances, he didn't deserve to be murdered in his sleep.
"The family needs some type of closure and we feel like we need justice for him,” she said. “So any information that you may have, can you please come forward? He didn't deserve this. He was sleeping."
Greer's death startled the community because it came just weeks after a homeless woman was killed at a nearby location.
The Austin Police Department says the murders aren't connected, but ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.
