New growth in the waters of Lady Bird Lake is stirring up concern from some local business owners.
The drought last year drastically changed the makeup of the waters of Lady Bird Lake. The changes made the lake more attractive to different species of plantlife.
"They produce oxygen. They trap sediment. They provide excellent habitat for fish to lay their eggs, for young fish to live," Mary Gilroy, city biologist, said.
But the plants are wrapping their stems around recreation on the lake, some local business owners say.
Wednesday, a group of the concerned business owners laid their issues at the steps of City Hall, but came away satisfied with the city's response.
"I understand that the city has budget limitations and certainly there are other things on the table that are lot more important,” Matt Knifton with the Texas Rowing Center said. "It's not something that is a real problem and at the end of the day, we're just going to try and avoid it."
