A gas leak in South Austin is now fixed.

A gas line ruptured when an Austin Water utility crew hit the six-inch gas main while working in the area. The incident closed down a section of Stassney Lane and officers had to direct traffic onto Manchaca Road Tuesday morning.

While the leak has been stopped, workers will now concentrate on repairing the gas and water lines near Crockett High School.

"We worked very closely with AISD to make sure we were meeting their needs as they planned for how they were going to get the students in and whether or not they were even going to be able to have school. That since has been resolved," Austin Fire Department Battalion Chief Palmer Buck said.

Roads reopened about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. No evacuations or injuries were reported.
