Zumba is a growing workout trend filling gyms with Latin and Hip Hop music.

Participants say it’s one of the best ways to have fun while working out, but for people who don’t have access to a car or don’t have a gym pass Zumba may something they’ve only heard about -- until now.

WeViva is a local nonprofit bringing fitness and fun together. It was created to bring fitness classes to more community members.

“Money is very hard to come by so it’s good that things are free and available to the public and people in the area,” first-time participant Delisha Daniels said.

The idea to bring classes to low income communities first came to life in one small apartment building.

“I want there to be a variety of people in fitness programs in Austin, not just those who can afford it,” WeViva Founder and Executive Director Carolyn Haney said. “For me, I just have a love of fitness and health and I want everyone to be able to enjoy it and have access to it.”

In just a year and a half, WeViva has grown to host Zumba, Yoga and other classes several times a week in several locations.

All of the Zumba teachers are certified to teach the classes which are taught in both English and Spanish.
