Retired tennis player and Austinite Andy Roddick is serving up some good fortune to local kids.

The Andy Roddick Foundation is currently planning to build a tennis center with eight courts and a learning center in East Austin. The foundation hosted a fundraising gala Friday night at the Moody Theatre to raise money for the center. Tickets ranged from one to three thousand dollars each.

Some of the money raised will also help six local nonprofits focused on children.

"I'm trying to pay forward all the lessons I've learned through sports and I feel like I can do that a lot better if I'm on site,” Roddick said.

In addition to the dinner and silent auction, the gala featured Grammy-winning singer John Legend.

The now-retired tennis star played his last game earlier this month.
