Fantastic Fest is a signature event of the local film scene that makes Austin the center of the freaky film universe for an entire week.

Each year, organizers push the envelope with incredible, sometimes disturbing, and often unforgettable experiences in cinema.

“We do have the very first penis documentary that’s ever been at Fantastic Fest. There’s actually not much of that subject material but we’ve actually added a documentary category. So we have five documentaries in competition. That’s brand new for us,” Fantastic Fest Creative Director Tim League said.

League says the “Drama” category has really started to gain steam at Fantastic Fest, but it’s not your typical “Drama,” category. It has a little darkness to it and is sinister around the edges.

“It’s a genre festival,” Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez said. “It’s my kind of festival and I don’t have to go anywhere. It’s right here at home.”
