Wet weather arrived in Central Texas. The much-needed rains kicked off Friday night, and are expected to last through Saturday evening.

The influx of rain has washed out a few outdoor events this weekend.

The weather has hampered the 18th Annual Hairy Man Festival, put on the by the Brushy Creek Women’s Association. The event usually draws about 5,000 people and benefits several local charities.

"Emotionally, I am heartbroken,” organizer Kristin Rountree said. “Our group has been working on this festival since March."

In years past, the Brushy Creek Women's Association had a make-up date, but Rountree says planners overlooked backup plans this year.

"We are kind of hoping for some type of make-up event. We haven't really decided what that is going to be,” she said. “We have a couple of wonderful ideas."

The Pecan Street Festival is more or less canceled this weekend as well. Citing safety concerns, organizers of the event have recommended that vendors and musicians stay home. However, the festival will be in full swing Sunday.

The Accessible Fishing for All Celebration that was set to take for 9 a.m. Saturday at Festival Beach off of Lady Bird Lake is also canceled.

Organizers with the CORE Health Foundation says they decided to cancel the event due to the potential flash flooding and the event’s proximity to water. They hope to reschedule the event in the near future.

However, the Mediterranean Festival at the Orthodox Church on 11th Street between Red River and Trinity will continue rain or shine.
