Rally held to rouse support for 10-1 representation plan

A rally was held Saturday in hopes of rousing support for Austin’s Proposition 3 in November.
Proposition 3 would create 10 legislative districts in Austin and each would vote for their own city council member. The plan also allows for one mayor who would be elected at-large.
The Trust Austin rally was organized by Austinites for Geographic Representation, the same group which gathered more than 30,000 signatures to get the 10-1 plan on the ballot.
"One—it's an opportunity to do something every other major city in Texas and the country has done which has geographic representation,” Peck Young with Austinites for Geographic Representation said. “And two—ours is the one that allows citizens to have a plan they created, they put on the ballot and where they'll draw the districts."
Also on the ballot this November is an 8-2-1 plan. That includes council members from eight single-member districts, plus two other members and the mayor elected at large.
