Thousands of people each day are in need of a bone marrow transplant, but sadly, most of them won't find a match.
Thirty-five-year-old Kristal Wolski is hoping to change that.
Wolski, a Round Rock resident, has struggled with leukemia since 1997 and just this year, doctors diagnosed the mother of two young boys with another form of blood cancer.
Now she needs a bone marrow transplant to ensure she’ll live long enough to watch her sons grow up.
Wolksi was unable to find a match in her family, so now she must rely on a stranger to be her saving grace.
She says many people don't even realize how easy it is to become a bone marrow donor.
"It just takes everybody coming out, working together trying to get people to get swabbed,” she said. “I just think people don't know, and don't realize the importance of bone marrow donations."
The DKMS group is hosting a bone marrow donor drive Sunday, similar to one they held back in July.
Volunteers with the group say registering and getting swabbed is an easy process that takes less than 10 minutes.
If you’d like to register, stop by the Wind River Office Building at 11615 Angus Road. The donor drive will started at 10:30 a.m.
