Halloween is getting closer, but not every child has the chance to trick-or-treat.

YNN is teaming up with the Travis County Sheriff's Office to help them collect candy for the kids at the Austin Children's Shelter.

They are youngsters who don't have the opportunity to go to a neighborhood and go trick-or-treating, so the Travis County Sheriff's Office and their Law Enforcement Explorers' program bring Halloween to the shelter.

"They have been in foster care for quite a number of years. Many of them have had many placements and they've experienced some pretty extreme trauma,” Julie Burch with the Austin Children’s Shelter said. "The first thing we do is we try to make them feel safe, and so, that's part of what's going on with this Halloween, this haunted neighborhood."

If you'd like to help, bring your candy, costume or monetary donations to the Travis County Sheriff's Office Oct. 15 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5555 Airport Boulevard.

Questions can be directed to Deputy Derrick Taylor at (512) 854-4315.
