YNN is partnering with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office to help some special children at the Austin Children’s Shelter. The sheriff’s Explorer program helps kids who can’t trick-or-treat in neighborhoods get the Halloween experience, and of course, the candy.

With some Halloween helpers, the neighborhood experience—complete with plenty of ghoulish decorations and haunting décor—is created in the halls of the Austin Children’s Shelter.

Kids from Helping Hands Home and Safe Place also join in on the fun. Helping Hands is the oldest children’s shelter in Travis County. They house children who have suffered some of the worst child abuse in the state, so they are happy to join in and head to the Austin Children’s Shelter for Halloween fun.

“It’s about the normalcy. We want our kids to have the same excitement around the holidays that all the other kids have,” Ted Keyser with Helping Hands said.

Over the next several days, YNN is hosting a station-wide candy drive to make sure all the participants have plenty to munch on come Oct. 31.

Join YNN in by donating your own candy to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.

If you would like to help, candy, costumes or monetary donations can be made to the Travis County Sheriff's Office on Oct.15 15 from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. at 5555 Airport Boulevard.

Questions can be directed to Deputy Derrick Taylor at (512) 854-4315.
