Austin police have identified a motorcyclist who was killed in northeast Austin shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday.

Emilio Benavidez was riding his Harley Davidson in the 7500 block of Cameron Road when it struck a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was traveling in the same lane. The 60-year-old motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the pickup remained on scene, according to officers.

Benavidez was transported to Brackenridge Hospital where he died shortly before 7 a.m.

This is Austin’s 59th traffic fatality of the year, and the fourth motorcyclist. Last year at this time there were 44 traffic fatalities.
