Austin Water Utility is celebrating a milestone as construction continues on Water Treatment Plant Number Four.

More than three years ago, the city council was split on whether to build the $507 million plant. Since they started working, crews have worked underground and underwater, more than 1,000,000 man-hours without a lost day of work because of an accident.

Almost 400 workers are spread out over several sites on any given day, meaning the project is still on schedule, but Austin Water says they may come in anywhere between five to six percent over budget.

"We are looking at contingency budgets along with operation cash and those sorts of integral financial issues that any project of this size would deal with," Austin Water spokesperson Jason Hill said.

The plant will provide 50 million gallons of water a day once it's finished in 2014.
