Bar fight becomes road rage murder in northeast Austin
Austin police are looking for the driver they say intentionally caused a vehicle crash early Sunday morning that killed a 17-year-old boy.
Officers say the victim, Efren Gonzalez-Rojas, Jr., was in a verbal altercation with the suspect outside of Club Escapade, located at 6575 Decker Lane. The two then carried the disturbance onto the roadway where it “quickly escalated,” according to police.
Both of the vehicles were traveling westbound on Loyola Lane when the suspect’s truck rammed Gonzales-Rojas’ vehicle from behind, causing it to crash into a pole. Gonzalez-Rojas was ejected from the vehicle and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Detectives now need the public’s help in locating the suspect’s vehicle, which is described as a large white or grey colored pickup truck, which could be a Ford super duty, with possible front end damage. The suspect himself is described as a light-skinned Hispanic male.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call APD’s Homicide Tip line at (512) 477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.
