APD identifies pedestrian struck on Highway 290
Austin police have identified the pedestrian killed on U.S. Highway 290 early Monday morning.

Officers say 19-year-old Christopher Bynum was running eastbound in the middle of the westbound traffic lanes of Highway 290 when he was struck by a Dodge Limousine van shortly before 1 a.m.

Bynum was transferred to an area hospital where he died about 30 minutes later from his injuries. The driver remained on scene and no charges are expected to be filed, according to APD.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit at (512) 974-5232. Bynum’s death is Austin’s 62nd traffic fatality of the year. Last year at this time there were 45 traffic fatalities.
