When it comes to city development, it’s true that all roads lead to downtown, but that doesn’t mean there’s enough parking for everybody.

Austin Business Journal Editor Colin Pope says city officials are considering eliminating parking requirements for people who build downtown. Right now the rule is if you build a bedroom downtown, you have to also provide a matching parking space.

By killing that requirement, it puts more of a push to keep cars away from the downtown area. It’s part of a long-term goal to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment and encourage public transit.
