APD identifies motorcyclist killed at Montopolis intersection
Austin police have identified the motorcyclist killed in a South Austin collision Sunday evening.
Officers say 40-year-old Sheldon Celedon was riding his Suzuki motorcycle southbound on Montopolis Drive at the Hogan Avenue intersection around 7 p.m. when he crashed into a Dodge four-door.
The driver of the Dodge did not see the motorcycle, according to police. Celedon laid down his motorcycle prior to the crash. He was not wearing a helmet and was taken to an area hospital. He was pounced dead at 7:31 p.m. from his injuries.
Celedon’s death is Austin’s 64th traffic fatality of the year. Last year in 2011 at this time, there were 45 traffic fatalities.
