A charity auction in Coach Darrel K Royal's name will go on as planned this weekend despite the famed coach's death Wednesday.

Royal's wife had planned the fundraiser for the Darrell K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer's Disease before Coach Royal's death.

Up for bid are championship rings, signed footballs, flags from the Apollo missions and many other treasures from the Royal's private collection.

But, more than anything, Chris Featherston with the Austin Auction Gallery says the collection is a reminder of a gracious and kind family.

"The rings that we show are beautiful, but the most beautiful thing to me is just these people and how they were true human beings. No pretentiousness about them,” Featherston said. “Every time you talk with Mrs. Royal, she treated me like she'd known me my whole life. Consequently, I think that's the biggest memento of all."

The auction also includes items from the personal collection of renowned designer and restaurant owner Beau Theriot.

It’s being run by the Austin Auction Gallery in Northwest Austin and will end Sunday at 11 a.m.
