Police are investigating a murder at the Riata complex in northwest Austin early Monday morning.

Officers responded to a call of a deceased person around 12:30 a.m. at the complex, located at 12410 Alameda Trace near Highway 183 and Oak Knoll.

Austin police said the victim had suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the body as that of 22-year-old Mohamad Omar.

According to Sgt. Ehlert with the Austin Police Department, Omar did not live in the apartment in which he was found. The residents of the apartment had returned home, but were unable to open the door to their apartment as Omar’s body was obstructing its path.

Police are still working to track down witnesses for more information.

Sgt. Ehlert said that they believe this was an isolated incident and that other residents of the apartment complex should feel safe.
