Prop 1 lawsuit thrown out of federal court
A federal judge has thrown out the lawsuit filed over Central Health’s Proposition 1.
On Election Day, voters approved Prop 1, an initiative designed to help fund the creation of a new medical school for the University of Texas with an increase in property tax.
That did not stop the Travis County Taxpayers Union Super PAC from filing a lawsuit to halt the proposition.
The suit claimed Central Health violated the Voting Rights Act with misleading ballot language.
Judge Lee Yeakel heard arguments Wednesday. A day later, he tossed the legal action out of court, saying the lawsuit had no grounds.
The Central Health tax increase goes into effect in October 2013.
