Austin Business Journal Editor Colin Pope said the utility company has always been city-run, but some businesses and groups in town are pushing for it to be run by an independent board.

The Austin Chamber of Commerce and the Building Owners and Managers Association are among those pushing for the city to consider alleviating the city council as Austin Energy’s boss.
